In this session, participants will discover how to effectively teach the five components of reading (phonemic awareness, phonic, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension) to English Learners. This session demonstrates best practices for teaching foundational reading skills and provides strategies educators can implement immediately.

Making Content Comprehensible for Newcomers (Grades 3-12)
Do you have students new to English in your classroom? This session provides concrete, practical strategies for making grade level content lessons comprehensible to students even on the first day. In this interactive session, you will experience learning content in a new language and apply those strategies to your own lessons.

Experienced Multilinguals (Grades 4-12)
This full day, in-person workshop is based on Tan Huynh鈥檚 and Beth Skelton鈥檚 book 鈥淟ong Term Success for Experienced Multilinguals鈥. The authors suggest that experienced multilinguals are capable of reaching the highest academic standards under optimal conditions. The workshop will guide you in cultivating these conditions in your dedicated English language development classes, general education classes and in sheltered or co taught content classes. The target audience is educators who support English Learners in grades 4-12.
